Congress
From September 6, 2010 to September 10, 2010
The General Assembly of the European Seismological Commission is the only European conference dedicated to seismology.
The ESC holds its General Assembly every two years in a different country. France is hosting this event for the first time in over 30 years (Strasbourg, 1978), and for only the second time since the ESC first met.
The ESC2010 will cover many scientific thematics, from tectonics to the sociology of risks while also covering seismology as a whole. Recent developments will be highlighted, such as the use of IT technology, artificial intelligence, citizens involvement in crisis management, educational initiatives etc. Feedback and highlights will also be provided on recent earthquakes (such as L'Aquila, Chile or Haiti).
The ESC 2010 will also focus on the European-Mediterranean collaboration, growing stronger day after day through European projects and through the creation of the tsunami alert system in the Mediterranean sea The conference will be followed by a week of training for young scientists from the Euro-Med region, a training dedicated to the evaluation of seismic hazard.
